Both the Emergency and First Aid at Work and Annual Refresher Course require face-to-face practical training that cannot be replaced by online courses. The online annual refresher does not include practical elements, but regularly practicing your first aid techniques is essential to ensure you are prepared for an emergency.
There will be a question paper and practical assessments to pass. Successful candidates will be awarded an HSE recognised Emergency First Aid at Work certificate that is valid for 3 years.
After 3 years, certificates will need to be renewed by attending another Emergency First Aid at Work course to requalify. The HSE also recommends that workplace first aiders attend an annual refresher courses in between their requalification date to maintain their first aid skills.
