At HL Training, our expert instructors provide a range of accredited loading shovel courses. We have a range of training courses covering wheeled loading shovels and tracked loading shovels. We have operator training courses tailored to various experience levels for each type of machine. Plus, each course is accredited by a recognised industry accreditor.

We deliver Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) A21 and A22 operator training courses.

Course Levels and Timings
We provide A21 and A22 loading shovel training for different competency levels. Our courses include beginner-level training through to courses for experienced operators. We also provide refresher courses for keeping your skills and knowledge up to date.
Our courses and timings are as follows (timings are based on 3 candidates per instructor):
- Novice loading shovel course -5 days
- Existing operator loading shovel course – 3 days
- Loading shovel refresher training – 1 day

Accredited Loading Shovel Training FAQs
Do I Need A License To Operate A Loading Shovel?
No. You do not need a loading shovel licence. In fact, they don’t exist. There are, however, several steps you will need to do to safely and legally be able to operate a loading shovel, including meeting some basic requirements and completing training. Where Are HL Training’s Loading Shovel Courses Delivered?
We can provide our training courses nationwide at a worksite of your choice. Alternatively, you can visit our Bristol training centre, which is complete with four training rooms and all the facilities required by our accrediting bodies.
How Often Are Refresher Courses Required?
Refresher courses are not a legal requirement, as your accredited certificate does not expire. However, HSE recommends refresher courses are carried out every 3 – 5 years.
