360 Excavator Training
There are two types of excavators, of which we have a vast amount of experience training – the wheeled (rubber duck) excavator and the tracked (draglines) excavator.
Excavators must only be operated by fully trained, competent operators – who, in addition, have been given the authorisation to use. Any operation should follow a suitable risk assessment.
We offer ITSSAR accredited training, which can be carried out at customer locations across the UK. All our training is ITSSAR, RTITB, and AITT accredited.
Our Digger Training Course Includes:
- Induction & Relevant Regulations (LOLER 1998, PUWER 1998 & HASAWA 1974)
- How rated capacities, load radius & elevation of the load affect the lifting capacity
- Basic Steering, Moving & Stopping
- Grading & Screeding
- Preparing for Transport
- Manoeuvring on inclines or ramps
- The differences between various lifting accessories or machine attachments (where required)
- Pre-use check test
- Theory test
- Practical test
THREE THINGS TO REMEMBER :
The excavator must NOT be operated outside of its capabilities. If you are in doubt, contact the machine manufacturer or call our office for any reason to discuss.
The manufactures recommended bucket size must NOT be exceeded.
When the load radius and elevation increase, or depending on the type of material, the lifting capacity could decrease.
A NOTE TO EMPLOYERS
Please remember to ensure you supervise any successful candidates considering their strengths and weaknesses in their training reports. In addition, if the training was NOT carried on the equipment they will be regularly using, ensure appropriate familiarisation training is given depending on the specific job.

FAQs
Here are some frequently asked questions.
How often should I refresh my training?
This is down to whether you or your employer feels you need to refresh your skills. It is not a legal requirement to undertake additional training. However, the HSE recommended guidelines are that operators complete refresher training every 3-5 years.
What qualifications do you need to drive a digger?
Some companies may require candidates to have a CSCS card to use their qualification on certain sites.
How long does learning to operate a 360 excavator take?
Our digger training course lengths vary depending on a candidate’s current experience level. We offer three training options, including our novice course (5-10 days dependent on accreditation and application), experienced course (3 days), or our refresher course (1 day). Additional training may be required depending on a candidate’s adherence to the course.
